Argentina vs Puerto Rico

This international friendly between the reigning FIFA World Cup champions, Argentina, and Puerto Rico brought together two national teams at very different stages of their development. While Argentina prepared for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Puerto Rico used the match as an opportunity to gain experience and exposure. The event drew global attention, and the match marked a historic moment for Puerto Rican football, as Wilfredo Rivera earned a contract in the Argentina’s Primera División following the game.

My Role

Based on previous accredited coverage, I was recognized as an independent journalist and granted media access through the organizers’ selection process, following verification and approval by the Puerto Rican Football Federation.

I was accredited as a photographer and provided comprehensive coverage of the match, including access to Argentina’s official training session, on-field visual coverage during the game, and coverage of official pre- and post-match media activities.

As part of the pre-match press conference, I interviewed Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni. My exchange regarding Lionel Messi’s availability was featured by ESPN SportsCenter as part of its coverage confirming Messi’s participation in the match.

In addition, I conducted pre- and post-match interviews with members of the Puerto Rico national team, including Leandro Antonetti, head coach Trout, and Wilfredo Rivera. Throughout the event, I produced on-field visual coverage capturing goals, celebrations, and key match moments, documenting historic scenes within an international football setting.

Impact

This coverage demonstrated my ability to operate within high-profile international football environments, combining editorial interviews, federation-approved access, and on-field visual storytelling.

Coverage from this assignment reached a global audience, with ESPN SportsCenter amplifying the pre-match press conference exchange to confirm Lionel Messi’s participation. Visual coverage from the match also documented pivotal moments involving Wilfredo Rivera, whose international exposure during the event preceded his signing with Barracas Central of Argentina’s Primera División.

Selected content from this coverage reached over a million viewers across social platforms, connecting global football audiences with a historic milestone for Puerto Rican football.
