MLS Game 2 - March 7th, 2026

This assignment marked my first Major League Soccer matchday coverage in the United States, following accreditation granted by Sporting Kansas City for their home opener against San Diego FC during the 2026 MLS season.

As an independent journalist documenting football culture through a human-first lens, the coverage focused on capturing the full matchday experience — from the energy inside the stadium to the voices of players and coaching staff after the final whistle.

My Role

Accredited as independent media, my role was to document the matchday experience from field-level access, capturing the stadium atmosphere, supporter culture, and key moments throughout the match.

Post-match coverage included an official press conference interview with Sporting Kansas City head coach Raphael Wicky, and a locker room interview with Spanish midfielder Manu García, providing insight into the team’s perspective following a closely contested match.

The coverage also highlighted the broader stadium environment and fan engagement, including the club mascot and matchday atmosphere, showcasing the cultural energy that surrounds Major League Soccer.

Impact

This coverage represents the beginning of ongoing MLS matchday documentation, expanding my ability to connect global football audiences with the league through bilingual storytelling.

By capturing both player and coaching perspectives alongside the supporter experience, the project highlights the growing influence of Major League Soccer and its connection with international football communities.
